There is also a group which meets in Auckland near Kumeu.
"We also realised that there must be lots of people who own say 10" Astronz telescopes and didn't know either where to go to for a nice safe area with a dark sky and the company of others, or were struggling with the steep learning curve of both finding things in the night sky and not knowing how to get the best out of their instrument. This is sort of the next big step after Kevin Barker and Olga Brochners "Beginners guide to the night sky" evenings held at the Stardome."
